Mr. Burns is the General Counsel for Monarch. Prior to joining Monarch in 2006, Mr. Burns was a partner in the restructuring, bankruptcy and workout practice group of Kirkland & Ellis, where he specialized in managing "mega company" restructurings, including United Airlines, Calpine Corp. and NRG Energy. Prior to joining Kirkland & Ellis, Mr. Burns served as General Counsel and Secretary of American Commercial Lines LLC, the nation’s largest inland river transportation company. In this role he regularly advised senior management and the board of directors on a wide variety of corporate matters. He also served as a member of the boards of directors of the company’s subsidiaries in Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, Bermuda and the Dominican Republic. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Macquarie AirFinance Ltd. Mr. Burns received his JD from the University of Louisville School of Law. He received an A.B. in Government from St. Edward’s University and an M.B.A from the University of Chicago.
